WIN a SIGNED copy of Katana by Cole Gibsen

Published July 1, 2012 by LS Murphy

I hit 100 likes on my Facebook page. As promised I’m giving away a signed copy of Katana by Cole Gibsen! AND IT’S INTERNATIONAL!

About Katana: Skater girl or supernatural samurai? Rileigh Martin wants to believe that adrenaline gave her the strength to fend off three muggers in the mall parking lot. But adrenaline doesn’t explain the voice in her head giving her battle tips and warnings.

While worrying that she’s going crazy (always a reputation ruiner), Rileigh gets a visit from Kim, a handsome martial arts instructor, who tells Rileigh she’s harboring the spirit of a five-hundred-year-old samurai warrior.

Relentlessly attacked by ninjas, Rileigh has no choice but to master the katana–a deadly Japanese sword that’s also the key to her past. As the spirit grows stronger and her feelings for Kim intensify, Rileigh is torn between continuing as the girl she’s always been and embracing the warrior inside her.

About Cole: When Cole Gibsen isn’t writing books for young adults, she can be found rocking out with her band, sewing crazy costumes for the fun of it, picking off her nail polish, or drinking milk straight from the jug — provided no one is looking.

Check out my interview with Cole here!

  • Gotta agree with the commenter above. Insta-love without decent background as to the why of it is getting a little boring and tired. I much prefer reading about relationship development and getting to ‘see’ the emotions evolve. I have read a lot of pnr, though. My tastes have been swinging a little harder toward contemp and dystopia lately. 🙂

  • I’m tired of seeing the SAME kind of dystopia. I’d love to see a futuristic YA with a setting other than a military-occupied / destroyed / evil government waste hole. Even if it is a dystopian thing, a new reason for the horror would be interesting.

  • I am tired of insta-love and love triangles, I think it’s the most common place in YA books these days. Would like to see more realistic relationships instead of the same old same old.

  • I too am a little tired of the insta-love syndrome. I like the idea of two people being monogamous but the story should be more realistic. My favorite genre to read is still pnr. I don’t think I could ever get enough of them so I’d love to see more of them on the shelf.

  • Since the trends today is more of Dystopian I’d like to see more of Dystopian… but then I’d like to see more of Steampunk also. I think when Dystopian would be too old enough Steampunk will arise or so I think it would. I’m tired of the normal vampire book. I think the cliche of Twilight has been all over them.

  • I really like romance books, but they are all getting very samey. Vampires, werewolves and all that jazz I do like, but need better storylines..
I really liked a Dystopian book I read recently called Partials by Dan Wells, it had romance in it but it wasn’t the MAIN thing in the book and the real romance isn’t hinted at until the end really.. If you read it you’ll see what I mean xD.

Another good one is the Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck, cause it has a love triangle with two guys who can turn into tigers because of a curse and one girl. Quite a bit of action too. The story is awesome.

I want a mixture.. In other words xD

  • I want something different. Ravka, the Russian-based world in SHADOW AND BONE, was different. Ismae, the crossbow-wielding nun assassin in GRAVE MERCY, was different. I want something different from other stories.

I hate vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, and love at first sight. Also, teens making all sorts of stupid choices regarding alcohol, drugs, smoking, and sex. Some do in real life, I know, but not ALL of us did!

  • Not sure if I’m in time! Dang time zones… Anyway, I’d love to see more kick-butt martial art action adventures like KATANA! Had enough of werewolves and vampires and angsty teenage girls.

  • Whoops – forgot to say loves/hates.

Would love more stories with cool characters in unusual places or hobbies with exciting plots to drive them to do something or go somewhere.
Tired of character-driven stories with no plot, just a day-in-the-life droning on and on…
