Recession Over?

Published February 24, 2010 by LS Murphy

I’m one of the fortunate ones. I am still employed. As I sit in my office day after day, the news talks about how the recession is over. Really? I’m not seeing it.

The Dow is up. The Dow is down. The NASDAQ is steady. Are these clear indications that the recession is over? Nope. Just indications that it’s over for some.

The unemployment rate is steady. Clear indication? Again, nope. What about all the people who can no longer collect benefits but still haven’t found a job yet? Yes, let’s just forget about them to make ourselves feel better.

It took World War II to get us out of the Depression. Now we are fighting two wars in the MIddle East with much improved technologies that also cost our government a ton of money. I support our troops. I hope they come home safely. But they need to come home sooner rather than later.

We can look at government spending. But think about WHO is looking at government spending. Yeah, you got it the GOVERNMENT. We can look at everything and anything but there is one fact that will remain at the end of the day. The recession isn’t over. For some, it’s only just beginning.
